Practical guidance

Trust & Safety

Clear communication and thoughtful planning can help people make more informed choices when finding work or hiring through a marketplace.

These suggestions are general safety guidance, not a guarantee of safety. RONO does not perform background checks or verify identity, professional licenses, credentials or insurance unless a specific feature says otherwise.

Plan a first meeting thoughtfully

  • When practical, meet for the first time in a public, professional location.
  • If the service legitimately requires a private residence or another non-public location, discuss the arrangement in advance, confirm who will be present, consider bringing someone you trust, and choose a check-in plan that suits the situation.
  • Tell a trusted person where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to check in.

Keep communication clear

  • Where possible, keep initial communication organized through RONO so the job details and discussion are easier to refer back to.
  • Share only the personal information needed to discuss the work. Avoid posting account passwords, identity documents, banking details or security codes in messages.
  • Ask direct questions about scope, timing, location, responsibilities and agreed rates before work begins.

Watch for suspicious requests

  • Be cautious of requests to send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, bank details or one-time codes to “unlock” work, verify an account or receive a payment.
  • Pause if someone pressures you to move quickly, changes the arrangement unexpectedly, or asks you to pay an unusual upfront fee.
  • RONO marketplace payment processing is not active. Be wary of anyone claiming RONO is holding, protecting or processing a payment for you.

Check relevant details independently

  • Where a role requires a license, credential or insurance, ask what applies and independently check with the relevant issuing body or provider.
  • Review a portfolio, references or past work when relevant. A public profile is not by itself proof of identity, qualifications or insurance.
  • Make your own assessment before sharing access, equipment, funds or sensitive information.

Trust your judgment and speak up

If an interaction feels unsafe or the agreed conditions change in a concerning way, leave or cancel if you can do so safely. If there is immediate danger, contact local emergency services. Report suspicious accounts, jobs, messages or behavior to RONO through the contact options on the site, and include the relevant profile, job or conversation details if safe to share.
